FAVOURITE SPOTS ALONG THE TRAILS (3) - SPRITO

When you are walking towards Jeranto, as I often do since it is conveniently close to where I live, you come to a saddle called Sprito.
It is set high above the bay where the path divides, the right fork taking you on to some dilapidated stone steps and down to the beach, the left descending more gently towards the land, once a quarry, now belonging to the FAI with its well-tended olive terraces and lemon groves.
Your gaze is automatically drawn outwards to where Capri's Faraglioni rocks can be seen peeping out from behind Punta Campanella.
However if you turn to your left, on a clear day the entire Gulf of Salerno as far as Punta Licosa is clearly visible, and whatever the weather you will always be rewarded with a stunning view of the Li Galli islands with the Amalfi coast stretching out behind. The characteristic formation of the 3 peaks, Mortella, Montalto and Penna, the ancient defense tower keeping watch, complete and complement this suggestive place.
